This year in Magic Art Club, we have been working hard exercising our creative muscles. By exploring patterns, shapes, and repetition, we’ve learned to find the play between order and chaos. We looked for these themes in the natural world, seeing how, for example, polka dots can be found on our own clothes and on a ladybug. We painted with pinecones and acorn tops, watching shapes form and repeat. We worked together to make a giant necklace, stretching our imaginations to a new scale. We interviewed and photographed each other to create a yearbook record of our time together, to treasure forever. We each got to decorate our own wooden panel, returning to it week by week to build up an expression of our individuality. We did tape relief projects, traced objects, compared textures, put shapes next to each other to see what pictures emerged, and experimented with printmaking, collage, and sculpture. We followed our curiosity to self-guide our own projects, making works such as airplanes, envelopes, pipe cleaner creatures, and books. Most importantly, we had fun. We made friends, shared laughs, and delighted in the magic of art!
