A huge thank you to Caroline Schlegel, Chair Professional Learning Committee, for leading this afternoon's webinar, From Ideas to Accepted, and to Milvia Hernandez, MFLA board member who joined to support colleagues as they explored conference presentation ideas and worked on proposal drafts.

One of the strengths of our profession is the willingness of educators to share their expertise, successes, challenges, and innovative practices with others. We are grateful to everyone who participated and took the next step toward submitting a proposal for the Fall 2026 MFLA Conference.

We can't wait to learn from you this October at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown! Https://bit.ly/MFLAfall2026proposals

🎓✨ Exciting news from UMBC!

UMBC’s Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics & Intercultural Communication is now offering enrolled students the opportunity to earn language credits through the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy.

This is a powerful example of how the Seal of Biliteracy can open doors beyond high school, recognizing students’ multilingual skills as valuable academic assets.

MFLA celebrates UMBC for honoring language learning, multilingualism, and the many cultural and linguistic strengths students bring with them.

Students can check the UMBC Undergraduate Catalog in June 2026 for more information.

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the courageous service members who gave their lives in defense of our country.

The stories of those we remember today were spoken in many languages and shaped by many cultures. From multilingual military families to the vital role of interpreters, translators, and Code Talkers throughout history, languages have long been part of service, sacrifice, and connection across nations.

As world language educators, we believe language learning helps build understanding, empathy, and peace, freedoms protected through the sacrifices of others.

From all of us at MFLA, we honor and remember the fallen this Memorial Day. ❤️🤍💛🖤
