Stop and think for a moment—what if one party had controlled your children’s education for years without challenge?

I’ve seen voting guides being shared online like the one below, trying to simplify our complex BOE election. That’s helpful—but here’s the hard truth: One party has held the BOE majority for years now. Too much time with one-party control breeds complacency, not real accountability.

Ask yourself—is that what you want for the future of our schools? Would it feel healthy if the opposite party had unchecked control instead?

The Independent seat is the critical balance—the filibuster that protects minority voices.

Checks and balances are essential to democracy. One-party supermajorities endanger that principle.

So when you vote, remember: Your Independent vote is not wasted. It’s the most strategic choice on the entire ballot, because no party should rule our children’s education for a generation.

Let's be honest—when was the last time YOU checked your phone during dinner?
Before we lecture teenagers about screen time, maybe we adults need to look in the mirror.
I'm proposing something different: teach digital wellness in high school. Give students the tools and trust to regulate themselves. Model better habits as adults.
It takes a village—and that starts with real conversations, not just rules.

I came across the Korean word 눈치 (nunchi) — the quiet art of reading the room, of sensing what isn’t being said.
After the recent loss of a political activist, I’ve watched grief quickly turn into arguments. Timelines fill with blame, hot takes, “us vs. them.” Somewhere in all that noise, the space for reflection gets lost.
Nunchi isn’t about sides. It’s about slowing down, noticing the emotions behind the words, and honoring a life by listening before speaking.
What if we met moments like this with more nunchi — more empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to sit with discomfort instead of rushing to the next headline?
Maybe then we’d remember that underneath all the opinions, most of us just want dignity, safety, and to be heard.
