Hello RCA!

Today we ask you to participate in a Labor Day walk-in to honor May Day, a tradition rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Affair, when workers advocating for an eight-hour workday were met with violence and injustice during a Chicago strike. This moment became a powerful symbol of the ongoing struggle for fair working conditions and workers’ rights. By recognizing May Day, we stand in solidarity with those who came before us and reaffirm our collective commitment to dignity, equity, and safe working conditions for all workers.

During challenging times, the importance of why labor organizing is critical is clear. In a time of budget deficits, RIFs, and other difficult decisions, this is the moment to display solidarity in fighting for all—our students, our communities, and ourselves.

The Ridgefield Classified Association (RCA) and the Ridgefield School District (RSD) Bargaining Team are pleased to announce that they have reached a Tentative Agreement for a 3-year contract! The new agreement will begin September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2029, following approval of RCA membership and the School Board of Directors.

“RCA has been working with the district to address contract issues continuously, developing 12 previously bargained Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), prior to these contract negotiations,” said RCA President Ashley Taylor.

The teams will be working together next week to finish formatting the contract and accompanying appendixes; RCA will then schedule their ratification meeting.

“I am incredibly proud of our strong relationships in Ridgefield. This contract is a culmination of our collaborative work over the last two years, and we are grateful for our partnership with RCA leadership that allowed us to reach this agreement early in the year,” said Dr. Jenny Rodriquez, Superintendent.

“We are grateful to all of our members for their help in identifying challenges and needs, and indebted to our members who served countless hours as part of our bargaining committee - Tyler Freedman, Central Services; Taylor Jones, Union Ridge; Amy Schurman, South Ridge; Melody Morrow, Sunset/View Ridge; and Jody Harris, Early Learning Center,” said President Taylor.

The final contract will be presented to the School Board, following ratification.
