We had the privilege of visiting Horiba in California in July. This visit was definitely a highlight. Deniece’s sister, who works at Horiba, scheduled the visit for us. We met some analytical chemists who introduced us to some of the Horiba particle-measurement instruments and gave us a tour of the lab as well as some insight into the inner workings of an active laboratory. We were impressed with the company motto of “Joy and Fun.” Most of all, the way we were welcomed as educators and the employees willingness to share with us what they do and how the inner workings of the instruments operate were greatly appreciated. Being able to share the science and mathematical concepts at this, our final educational stop of the trek, with our students, is one of the many joys of being able to experience this month-long journey thanks to Fund For Teachers and the Ford Family Foundation.

Part 3 of 3. See the Antelope Canyon album for all the photos included here. What an amazing slot canyon! I used my standard camera and iPhone to take pictures. Of interest, was the outcome when I changed the focal point of each camera. The lighting and colors that resulted are in some cases quite extreme. The tour was rushed due to being so busy, and I would love to go back on a day that allows for a more leisurely hike and photo opportunities through the canyon.
