Great news! We have just received notice that Riddle Elementary is clear of bat activity, and the sanitation process has been successfully completed. School will be open tomorrow, Monday, September 14, and we are excited to welcome our students and staff back!

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support throughout this process. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Dear Riddle Elementary Families,

Riddle Elementary School will remain closed Friday, September 11, as we address the bat activity in the building and take preventative measures and improve our building for safety. We are hopeful that students will be able to return Monday, September 14.

We understand that an unexpected school closure creates real challenges for families, and we are grateful for your patience and support. We will keep you updated as the work progresses.

Here’s what’s happening now: We’re continuing to consult with the Douglas Public Health Network, Oregon Health Authority, and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife as needed.

We are working with a state-preferred licensed bat specialist on what is called a “humane exclusion process” that allows bats to safely leave while preventing them from returning. This work also includes identifying and sealing potential entry points.

We are also developing plans to support continued learning just in case the closure needs to extend beyond Monday.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work to ensure our students can safely return to a high-quality learning environment as soon as possible.
