We developed The Aquaponic Farming Course to teach future farmers how to successfully build, start and operate an aquaponics farm. Through classroom lecture, hands-on sessions and course manual content, students of the course will learn how to build, manage and operate the aquaponic components integrated into our farm model at Green Acre Aquaponics. Gina Cavaliero, aquaponic farmer and co-founder of Green Acre Aquaponics, educates our students on how the “internet farmer” is integral in today’s market place. This eye-opening session on marketing and online presence educates future farmers on the importance of social media and online tools for connecting to a community and building the all-important "tribe." The marketing sessions were co-created with Sylvia Bernstein, former VP of Marketing for AeroGrow International, and author of “Aquaponic Gardening,” an Amazon best-seller. Gina also educates on farm sales, and other essentials: merchandising at farmers markets; selling to restaurant chefs; and creating buying clubs and online produce stores. As co-Founder and inaugural Chair of The Aquaponics Association, Gina formed the organization's Food Safety Committee and is heavily invested in helping develop food safety for the burgeoning industry and lends her education and experience to The Aquaponic Farming Course with sessions on food safety: implementing safe practices for the aquaponic farm, how to build a farm food safety plan; understanding food safety audits and certification; and the importance of food safety in the business of aquaponic farming.
