Last Friday, we kicked off the 2026-27 school year with a fantastic Opening Day across our 7 schools!

The Matteson School District 162 family is back together! 🍎📚

Before welcoming students back to school on Friday, Aug. 21, District 162 administrators, teachers, support staff and employees came together for Opening Day — a time to reconnect, celebrate and prepare for another year of serving our students.

The morning began with breakfast and fellowship before the District recognized the people whose dedication makes District 162 special. Employees were honored for perfect attendance and milestones in their years of service, including Debi Wilcox, who was celebrated for an incredible 40 years of service to District 162! New members of the District 162 family were also introduced and welcomed.

We were pleased to welcome Rich Township High School District 227 Superintendent Dr. Johnnie Thomas, who stopped by to offer words of encouragement as our staff prepares for the year ahead.

Superintendent Dr. Blondean Y. Davis challenged the District 162 family to “Make Every Moment Count” — reminding us that excellence is about consistency and that what we do each day makes a difference in the lives of our students.

Now, we're ready for our students!

Attention Indiana Elementary Families! We encourage all of our Wildcat families to join us for our "Back to School CLAP-IN" on Opening Day of the school year this Friday, August 21st! 🎉🎒✏

Help us kick off the 2026-27 school year with unforgettable high energy! We are inviting all parents, guardians, community leaders, alumni and neighbors to line the school entrance walkway and clap in our students as they arrive for their first day! 😸

🎓 COMING UP: The moment has arrived! Tonight, we proudly celebrate the academic achievements, perseverance, and success of our outstanding 8th Grade Class of 2026 as they cross the stage and mark this important milestone in their educational journey.

Join us for the Matteson School District 162 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony:
