Love, Risk, Joy, Engagement and Reflection

Developed by educator Cheng Xueqin over the last 15 years, AnjiPlay is a 21st Century approach to early childhood that returns the right of self-determined play and learning to the child through unique practices, materials and environments.

These are public kindergartens in Anji County, China. The children decide what they play. The teachers watch, listen, and write down the children's own stories of their play.

The joy isn't just for the kids. Visitors have fun in Anji too!

During our study tours, we spend lots of time observing and listening in the kindergartens of Anji County. You watch the children play and listen to children reflect on their play. You'll look closely at each school's materials, outdoor environments, and classroom spaces. Take notes during principals' presentations, ask questions, and have meaningful discussions with fellow participants.

AND you get to play!

It's professional learning that's both serious and seriously fun. Our next study tour is November 7-12. The $3,000 USD program fee covers five nights of lodging, all meals, ground transportation, and English interpretation (airfare not included).

Learn directly from Anji educators, connect with colleagues from around the world, and explore one of China's most beautiful counties, nestled among bamboo- and tea-covered mountains. Visitors to Anji routinely describe what they witness as unlike anything they have seen anywhere else in the world — hundreds of children deeply engaged, working together, and joyful, with little to no adult direction. The program includes five nights of lodging in Anji, all meals, ground transportation, and English interpretation. Cost: $3,000 USD per person
