At Shady Oak Primary School, our culture is intentionally built, nurtured, and reinforced every day.

One of our favorite daily traditions is the Compliment Circle. At the end of each day, students take turns recognizing the strengths, character, and positive actions they observe in their classmates. Because they never know who they will sit beside or which direction the circle will travel, students learn to look for the greatness in everyone. Even more importantly, they learn to support their compliments with specific examples and irrefutable evidence.

Our upper elementary students also maintain a daily Reflection Journal, where they record:
⭐ Two things that went well that day
⭐ Two areas they would like to improve, adjust, or approach differently

These simple yet powerful practices help students develop self-awareness, gratitude, empathy, and personal responsibility—skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.

A great goal is:

✅ Action-Oriented
✅ Realistic
✅ Time-Specific

Here's your challenge: Sit down with your child and write down 10 goals. Review them daily for the next 30 days and take at least one small action toward achieving them.
