🔙We’re doing a little throwback Tuesday today to when we had our amazing group of VCU Summer Scholars with us this past summer (and when the weather was a lot warmer 😭).

These students had the opportunity to kick off college a few weeks early and complete two classes before the fall semester began. One of the classes they took was Honors Rhetoric where they were asked to write a 20-page research paper on the topic of their choice.

We hope that your semester is winding down according to plan and that you’re finding a way to make time for yourself in this busy time of year!

🖤💛Alum Spotlight 🔦🐏

Axana Soltan’s family fled her home country of Afghanistan when she was a child. For 10 years, her and her family lived in refugee camps across Central Asia before immigrating to Richmond in 2009.

When Axana enrolled Virginia Commonwealth University and the Honors College, she found a place where she could become the human-rights advocate she had dreamed of becoming. Someone that could learn how to help others who were experiencing what she experienced as a child.

🔦✨Honors Student Spotlight 🔦✨

This spotlight we are featuring Arya Kalathil, a junior in the Honors College majoring in Psychology and Sociology in the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences.

Even before coming to Virginia Commonwealth University, Arya had an interest in mindfulness and wellbeing, but it was after she arrived in the Honors College that it really took shape!

🗣️”All university students face challenges with mental health, especially Honors students who take on a more demanding course load and strive to engage extracurricularly as well. If I couldn't find a resource that I wish I had, I figured I might as well create spaces that help other students, and set the groundwork for better resources and opportunities for students to get involved with taking care of themselves and immersing themselves in their community.”
