Parents, we have to pay attention.

Some youth are becoming content creators before they fully understand the consequences of what they post.

A funny video, viral challenge, personal story, location tag, or “innocent” picture can travel far beyond the audience they intended—and once it’s online, control over that content can disappear quickly.

We have to teach our kids that likes, views, and followers are not worth sacrificing privacy or safety.

Before they POST, teach them to PAUSE:
Who can see this? What am I revealing? Could this hurt me later?

Digital safety is a life skill. Let’s teach it BEFORE they learn the hard way.

PARENTS & EDUCATORS… PAY ATTENTION!

OUSD — Oakland Unified School District — is locking up student cell phones during the school day.

That may reduce distractions, but what happens when the pouch opens?

A pouch cannot teach a child how to recognize online grooming, sextortion, cyberbullying, predators in gaming chats, or dangerous DMs.

This is exactly why I wrote the Student Online Safety Act (SOSA).

We can’t just restrict technology.
We have to teach our kids how to be SAFE using it.

FRANCE JUST SAID: ENOUGH.

France has approved a law banning children under 15 from social media, becoming the first country in the European Union to approve such a broad restriction. (AP News)

And THIS is the conversation we need to be having in America.

We cannot keep handing children unlimited access to adult digital spaces and then acting surprised when they encounter grooming, sextortion, cyberbullying, exploitation and harmful content.

At Knot Our Kidz, I’ve been saying it:

Access without protection is not enough.
Education without monitoring is not enough.
We have to protect our children where they actually are — ONLINE.

Many kids can master trends, livestreams, and social media before they ever learn how to recognize grooming, sextortion, scams, or online predators.

We teach children how to use technology. But are we teaching them how to survive it?

What information am I giving someone who doesn’t know us?
