“Who ELSE is going to be in the home?”

Knowing the parent hosting the sleepover is important—but what about everyone else who may be there?

Older siblings.
Their friends.
Relatives.
Partners.
Neighbors stopping by.
Other overnight guests.

We spend a lot of time teaching children how to protect themselves, but adults have a responsibility to check the environment first.

You are NOT being rude.
You are NOT doing too much.
You are parenting with information. 🧡

And if asking reasonable safety questions makes someone uncomfortable, pay attention to that.

It may seem like an innocent post, but those two words can tell someone online that your child is alone and an adult may not be present.

Children often share information without realizing how much it reveals. A photo, location tag, school name, daily routine—or simply saying “I’m home alone”—can give strangers information they should never have.

At Knot Our Kidz, we educate parents, children, and educators about digital safety, online grooming, sextortion, exploitation, and the everyday online behaviors that can put children at risk.

Is your child’s name visible on the outside of their backpack, lunchbox, jacket, or other belongings?

A stranger who knows your child’s name can sound familiar:

“Hey, Jordan! Your mom told me to get you.”

A child may be more likely to trust someone who already knows their name.

Teach your child: Knowing your name does NOT mean someone knows you or your family.

Turn name tags inside the backpack when possible.

Would your child know what to do if a stranger called them by name?
