Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at Eastern Kentucky University The Eastern Kentucky University Communication Sciences and Disorders Program, preparing future speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Eastern Kentucky University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified and ethical professionals to provide effective, evidence-based speech-language pathology and audiology services to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds with communication and swallowing disorders. Established in 1969, the Communication Disorders program was one of the first programs in the Special Education Department at EKU. Graduates also have the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate. The CD Program offers both an undergraduate B.S. and a graduate M.A. in Communication Disorders. The Master of Arts (MA) education program in Speech-Language Pathology at Eastern Kentucky University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Our students had the opportunity to get hands-on training with audiology assessment equipment funded through the Appalachian STAR Trial (AppSTAR)!

AppSTAR is helping enhance school hearing screenings across 14 school districts in Eastern Kentucky—many of the same communities where our students will complete their clinical externships and employment as an SLP. This experience gives our students valuable hands-on skills while connecting their classroom learning to the real-world needs of the communities they will serve.

We’re excited to see our students learning, practicing, and preparing to make a difference in hearing healthcare across Kentucky!

EKU's CSD & Psychology programs joined forces on Saturday to present information about behavior and communication at the Richmond Caregiver Summit 2026 held on EKU's campus. The event was sponsored by the Kentucky Autism Training Center and included ~50 family members. Caleb Radar, Jade Robinson, Haley Harned, & Myra Beth Bundy helped participants understand that communication is behavior, communication can be expressed in many forms, and communication in every form is valid! Many of the families got to try a variety of augmentative & alternative communication (AAC) systems for the first time.
