Saint Gertrude's Honor Ensemble and the Benedictine School treated us to an absolutely spell-binding Lessons and Carols this year. This tradition becomes deeper and richer every year, and we are so pleased to be able to share it with you!
If you don't have time to sit down and watch during this busy season, it makes for great ambient music while wrapping gifts, or preparing your holiday meals. We hope you enjoy the presentation, and to Gators from 1-92, although it's been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you!

Coach Pochily and her family were blessed with a little Christmas miracle! 🎄✨
Christmas ornaments missing for nearly a decade returned to owners in Virginia Matt and Fran Pochily were moving to their new home, and during the process, they took most of their belongings but left behind items in their Norfolk attic and garage.
🧡💙 These lasting relationships are part of what makes Saint Gertrude so special!
Madison, SGHS '17 (Class of Orange and Blue), stopped by to visit us on her way home for Christmas break. I wasn't quick thinking enough to take a photo, so here is one with Madison, her grandmother and Sister Charlotte Lange from several years back. It was Madison that helped launch our Ora et Labora program for SGHS students to spend time at the monastery during the summer, learning more about us and participating in some of our ministries.
We enjoyed today's visit so much, catching up with Madison. Just a shoutout to other Saint Gertrude High School alumna who might be passing by on their way home for Christmas! Stop in and see the new monastery!!

Ally and Corby Talton share why Benedictine Schools of Richmond has made such an impact on their lives.
This comprehensive campaign has five components: a new 50,000 square-foot home for Saint Gertrude, new athletic fields and complexes to support both the Cadets and Gators, growing BSoR's endowment and increasing scholarships, a new dedicated performing and fine arts center, and a 3,400 square-foot chapel in the new Saint Gertrude building.
With a goal of $40,000,000, we need the support of our entire BSoR community to assure this campaign's success. We ask that you prayerfully consider how you can best support this next phase of the Benedictine Schools of Richmond. The Campaign will not only ensure a strong and secure future for both Saint Gertrude and Benedictine, but will solidify the importance of Catholic, single-sex education in the Central Virginia area.

This Thanksgiving, we have more than ever to be thankful for: a new building rising over the James, an incredible community of students, parents and alumnae, and of course our faculty and staff. Of the latter, we’d like to introduce you to Andy Garrigue.
A Harvard grad, Mr. Garrigue earned his degree in English and American Literature. A scholar and an athlete, he played two years of Division 1 soccer, and four years of rugby—he was a member of a National Championship team in 1984! Outside of the classroom, Mr. Garrigue is a professional freelance writer—you may have seen his features and criticism on music and other performing arts in the Times Dispatch or Style Weekly.
A love of literature and writing led Mr. Garrigue here to Saint Gertrude, in hopes of developing and encouraging the writers of the next generation. He has generously offered his time and wonderful photography skills to give our community a better glimpse into daily life here at school.
Welcome, Mr. Garrigue! We are so grateful to have you.
Gators kicked off Thanksgiving weekend early with a lovely luncheon in honor of their grandparents. We are so thankful for all of these happy families! 🍁🍽️

Feast of St. Gertrude the Great – Morning Prayer – 5th exercise excerpt
Antiphon: Hide me, O loving Jesus. Hide me in the secret of Your Face.
O Love, O God, who first loved me, grant that with my whole heart,
and my whole soul, and my whole strength, I may love you.
O Love most dear, grant that I may live for you alone.
O Love most victorious, grant that I may persevere to the end with you.
Today we celebrate with joy one of our Benedictine women saints, St. Gertrude the Great, who is the patron of our Saint Gertrude High School. Her love of learning and mystical revelations led her to be called the Herald of Divine Love in which she wrote especially about the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Her modeling of monastic life is well summed up in the hymn we sang this morning, “Love Is a Greening”, by our S. Joanna: “Will you be welcome? Will you be open when fear closes doors, turns away from the stranger? Will you be welcome? Will you be mercy? Will you forgive? Will you draw from the well of compassion and healing? Will you be welcome? Light in the shadows, hope in despair, comfort in sorrow, love never fails to be patient and caring, gentle and strong, daring joy, seeking wisdom and truth, finding beauty, tending the holy. Walk with the lonely, carry the weak, leave who are you are, become whom you seek to be. Love is a greening, verdant and growing. Will you be blessing? Will you be peace?” May you be your own Herald of Divine Love today and always! Happy Feast!
