Presenting our 2026 competitive show, “Out of the Woodwork”
The show tells the story of something hidden — a seed, a creature, or an idea — slowly emerging from obscurity and growing into full expression. It’s a contemporary journey from concealment to revelation, from fragility to vibrancy.

We are excited to announce the newest member of our team! Mr. Josh Mistrot will be joining the Tomas Band as an Assistant Director of Bands!
A native of Denton, Texas, Josh Mistrot is a passionate music educator and performer dedicated to fostering excellence and enthusiasm in young musicians. He graduated from Guyer High School in 2016, where he earned All-State honors on Euphonium. He went on to attend Baylor University, earning a Bachelors in Music Education in 2020. During his time at Baylor, he had the opportunity to perform for four years with the prestigious Baylor Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Eric Wilson, gaining valuable experience as both a musician and collaborator.
Prior to Tomas High School, Mr. Mistrot was the Associate Director of Bands at Davis High School in Aldine ISD. In this role, he directed the Sub-Non Varsity and Non-Varsity bands, directed the marching band, created and grew the Davis Jazz Orchestra, and started a thriving chamber music program.
In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Mistrot remains an active professional performer on euphonium and trombone. He has performed with the prestigious World Youth Wind Orchestra Project at the annual Mid Europe Festival in Schladming, Austria. He is also the founder and manager of the Bayou City Groove Brass Band, an East Coast-style brass band based in Houston, Texas. Through both his teaching and performing, Mr. Mistrot strives to inspire a lifelong appreciation for music in every student and audience he reaches, and is incredibly excited to begin this new chapter at Gene Tomas High School!
