A child’s regulation begins with a co-regulated teacher or parent.

The nervous system of the teacher may be the most powerful intervention in the classroom, but please do not turn that sentence into another responsibility for teachers to carry. This does not mean teachers should be expected to stay calm through impossible workloads, chronic understaffing, constant interruptions, escalating behavior, lost planning time, and very little support. Regulation is not an endless supply of patience that a teacher should somehow manufacture while the system keeps taking from them. It means that if we understand how much a teacher’s state influences the room, we should start building schools around protecting that resource. Give teachers time to recover between demands. Give them predictable support when behavior escalates. Protect their planning and lunch periods. Reduce unnecessary tasks. Provide enough staff. Listen before they are already burned out. We spend so much time asking how teachers can create safety for students. We need to start asking whether teachers are being given enough safety, support, and capacity to do that. Supporting teachers is where student support begins.

🚧 We're making improvements to Chamberlayne Ave.

Beginning August 3, crews will resurface Chamberlayne Ave. between Walton Ave. and Hammond Ave. to improve pavement conditions and create a safer, more comfortable ride for everyone traveling through the corridor.

🕘 Daily, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.

During work hours, this section of Chamberlayne Ave. will be closed to through traffic. Please follow posted detours, allow extra travel time, and use caution around work zones to help keep crews and fellow travelers safe.
