Professor emeritus Richard A. Glennon, Ph.D., has published Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Virginia Commonwealth University: Historical and Personal Reflections, a new history of the VCU Pharmacy's Department of Medicinal Chemistry through VCU Scholars Compass.

The 74-page history catalogs the department's origins and faculty alongside documenting newly developed programs and initiatives. Thank you, Dr. Glennon, for preserving this important part of our school's history!

"I must admit that I was always curious about the Department’s history, but I never considered writing anything about it until Dr. Youzhong Guo, associate professor within the department, brought it to my attention," Dr. Glennon says. "When I joined the Department, I found that it consisted of a tight-knit group of knowledgeable faculty members who would go out of their way to assist each other (and, of course, SoP students). Prior to this history, there was almost nothing available (at least not in one place) that describes the contributions of these people. Because I had worked with nearly all of the legacy faculty, I took this as a challenge (and as an honor) to be asked to recount the efforts of these outstanding faculty members and the progress the Department has made over the years. It brought back many memories!"
