August Wilderness 2026 is out of the mountains and headed to their new home at EC! They made some new friends in the Uintas and on their road trip back at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage! More pics and stories to come, but a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this trip possible and who has been thinking of our groups from afar!!

George Rickett is our other faculty leader venturing out on this year’s August Wilderness!! George is the head cross country coach at Earlham and recently graduated from Earlham’s master’s program in education! He’s a big fan of s’mores, especially when they have Reese’s cups in them! One of his most favorite memories in the great outdoors was three years ago hiking with college friends in the mountains of Colorado where they got to see snow - in July! While George has not been on an August Wilderness trip before, he loves its history and is super excited to be able to do a type of trip most people never do!

Introducing August Wilderness faculty leader Nico!! Nico is a pre-health advisor with Earlham’s Center for Global Health and a graduate of Earlham College, class of 2023! He majored in psychology and earned minors in both business and public health. One of Nico’s favorite memories in the great outdoors was a 5-star p**p (IYKYK) during a sunrise in the Grand Canyon! He loves eating calzones while camping and think August Wilderness is great for the beautiful community it creates. Nico is so excited to meet all of the incoming participants!!

Rounding out our 2026 August Wilderness student leader crew is Rey Jensen-Sizelove!! Rey is an engineering major and environmental sustainability minor who loves not only trekking in the great outdoors, but taking action towards conservation and sustainable management of the places they love. They also did a semester abroad in Aotearoa New Zealand where they learned about all kinds of plants along the Whanganui River on a canoe trip! You can catch them eating brownie scramble and mac n’ cheese on trail 😋 They love how August Wilderness allows students to face challenges and grow with their peers while forming lifelong skills and friendships and are so excited to lead this summer!!

Tamsyn Hale is up next for our August Wilderness 2026 leader intros! They are a rising 4th yr student studying biochemistry. They love some chili mac after a long day of hiking and have lots of amazing stories to share about their semester abroad in Aotearoa New Zealand! One of her favorite memories includes looking for kiwis during a backpacking trip on the Heaphy Track! What does Tamsyn love about August Wilderness??? EVERYTHING!!!
