Wondering how grades and moving up will be handled? See the status update from HCPS below!
Here's a brief post as the Henrico team works diligently to answer some big remaining questions (and you can check your parent email and/or our FAQ page for all updates):
How will students’ course grades be determined, and what are the options for student learning while schools are closed?
We expect to release detailed information on these topics starting on Tuesday evening of next week. As we’ve shared previously, the Virginia Department of Education has provided flexibility to local school divisions as it relates to promotion to the next grade. It’s important that our plans for grading first be carefully reviewed by our school principals and teachers. As with many new aspects of everyday life, our schools and offices are navigating this complex task while teleworking, but once this is complete, we’ll be ready to share our plans with you.
What about the specialty center application process?
The specialty center process is moving forward. Students must submit their intent to attend or remain on a waitlist by Friday, April 3. Candidates who were selected or waitlisted will receive additional information by email during the week of March 30 regarding virtual opportunities to connect with specialty centers. Where applicable, invitations from the waitlist will be made between April 13-20.
Meals for students: Remember, HCPS offers 14 sites where students and families can pick up “grab and go” lunches and breakfasts. The curbside distribution sites are open 11 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. On Sunday, we’ll do a reminder phone call and email with more details about meals for next week.
Computers for students: The Henrico team is actively working on a plan to get laptop computers and internet hot spots in the hands of elementary school families who need them. We’ll be sure to update you on that as the plan comes together. Also, this is a reminder that middle and high school families (whose students are already provided HCPS-issued laptops) can still visit one of our four mobile technology hubs for laptop repairs and internet access, Monday through Friday.
