EKU Jalapeno Peppers go from Farm to Table:
The Department of Agriculture teamed up with the Department of Applied Human Sciences to bring homegrown jalapeno peppers to patrons of Café Burrier. The Department of Agriculture provides students with a hands-on experience of producing food which is often sold at the local farmers market. This week, students provided jalapeno peppers for Café Burrier. Café Burrier is a student-run restaurant in which students enrolled in Quantity Food Production can prepare and serve meals to the community. The jalapeno peppers were grown under the supervision of John Duvall and were hand-picked by students Skylar Campbell and Gracie Hayes. The students picked approximately 10 pounds of jalapeno peppers which were handed off for food production to culinary nutrition & food management student, Parker Hayes. The jalapenos were then taken to the Café Burrier kitchen where about 4 pounds were chopped up for the homemade salsa and elote corn. The rest of the jalapenos will be served in Café Burrier on September 29th for jalapeno poppers. This is a great way for students to see the concept “farm to table” put to practice.
