Catherine McIntyre-velky Idea Army’s Chief Operating Officer, is driving from Minneapolis to New York to lead a roundtable program on logistics and operations. Having worked at the top of Wieden & Kennedy in Portland and at Fallon in Minneapolis, she’s one of the best in our industry. Having the privilege of getting to know her first-hand these past 3 weeks, I know that she’s Wonder Woman in the flesh. (She’ll be speaking at the HS Creative OperationsNY22 conference on May 4.)
Catherine’s family has struggled mightily after COVID hit. A big project with Keurig Dr. Pepper was put on hold by the CCO, where it remains.
Like others, they pivoted and with her husband Ken, they launched their own creative startup. It’s called, “Dueling Grandmas”, offering heavenly, decadent shortbread treats based on hybrid recipes that combine the best recipes from their own beloved grandmothers.
Now, you’d think that a woman such as Catherine would have asked her skilled friends to help devise a marketing plan and creative communications as good as their shortbreads taste. But no, their teenage daughter is running Dueling Grandmas’ social media when not in her college classes.
The musical refrain, “Don’t hold your head up higher than your heart.” comes to my mind. I myself am guilty of putting my pride before my needs. I should have asked for help when my beloved VCU Adcenter and reputation were being stolen from me by Mike Hughes, Rick Boyko, and my ex Hal Tench. Instead, I remained quiet, not wanting others to know just how beaten down I was.
Back to Dueling Grandmas and one of my Wonder Women - Mother’s Day is coming up. If you’re like me and know some incredible mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters co-workers, and friends who could use a little love and appreciation, please send them kind thoughts and a bit of heaven on earth.
