The goal of First Year Programs is to empower first year students to persist to graduation. Orientation is required for all new freshmen. What Is Orientation?
During Orientation you will:
-Meet with faculty, staff, and student advisors
-Acquaint yourself with Eastern's campus and services
-Register for your first semester courses
-Once you are admitted to EKU, you will receive a letter inviting you to register for an Orientation session. You must attend Orientation on the campus where you will be taking classes. The Orientation Program:
-Is REQUIRED f
or all new freshmen
-Includes time to meet with academic advisors, register for classes, tour the campus, and gather information on campus activities and services
-Includes special sessions for parents and guests, to involve them in the process of helping their students succeed
-Gives families an opportunity to join the Eastern Family Network
Academic Testing Information
Important Placement Testing Information! Before you can be advised and registered for classes, you may need to take placement test(s). You must take placement tests if you have an ACT score below:
18 in English
19 (for Math 105) or 22 (for MAT 107) in Mathematics
20 in Reading
OR an SAT score below:
430 in Writing
460 (for Math 105) or 510 (for Math 107) in Mathematics
470 in Critical Reading
If you are required to take placement tests, you must take the test(s) at least 24 hours prior to your orientation date. However, the MAT 107 test will be offered during Orientation, prior to advising, for students who want to register for MAT 107 but have not yet met the prerequisites. To schedule pre-orientation placement test(s), please call the Academic Testing Office at (859) 622-1281. Students required to take the mathematics placement test should bring a standard calculator. Parents, guests, or students requiring specific accommodations should contact the Office of Services for Individuals with Disabilities (OSID) at (859) 622-2933 at least one week prior to the event. Individuals who need to request interpreters for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing should submit an Interpreter Request Form online at http://aslie.eku.edu/request. Orientation Fees
Fall 2013 Orientation Fee for Freshmen
$50 Per Student
Fees for freshmen include: morning reception, lunch, afternoon reception, the Orientation guide, parking, and all materials.
$10 Guest Fee Per Person (Children 3 and under are free)
Fees for guests include: morning reception, lunch, afternoon reception, and all materials. (Orientation fees must be paid prior to your Orientation session.) Overnight Housing
(Available for May, June, & July Orientation sessions only)
Housing is available for students and parents who desire overnight accommodations in Eastern's residence halls. Reservations are required. Please call 859-622-1515. Cost is $13 per person per night. Linens are not provided. What to bring:
