Our kindergarten Squirrels have been rolling through an exciting bicycle project this semester! 🚲 Throughout this in-depth project study, students explored the evolution of bicycles, learned the different parts and purposes of bikes, discovered important bike safety rules, and even built confidence and independence as several students learned to ride without training wheels for the very first time.
To celebrate the culmination of their hard work and learning, our Squirrels hosted their very own bike parade and cruiser ride through our school neighborhood alongside their families. After the ride, families gathered on the playground where students proudly showcased documentation, artwork, discoveries, and the journey of how their bicycle project unfolded from beginning to end.
Project Approach teaching allows children’s curiosities and questions about the world around them to guide learning through hands-on investigation, meaningful experiences, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. Research shows that project-based learning strengthens critical thinking, language development, creativity, confidence, and social-emotional growth because children are deeply engaged in topics that matter to them. It also helps children retain knowledge more meaningfully because they are actively doing, exploring, discussing, and discovering instead of simply memorizing facts.
One of the most beautiful parts of the project approach is watching the transformation that happens along the way and by the end of the project, the students are no longer just the learners asking the questions… they become the experts sharing their knowledge with others. And goodness, do we love watching that happen here

Warmer days mean more magical water play at our little school! 💦🐚 Students spent the day scooping glistening blue water, discovering seashell treasures, and letting their imaginations dive deep with sea creatures and ocean adventures.
Water play is so much more than fun — it nurtures creativity, sensory exploration, fine motor development, language skills, problem solving, and cooperative play. As children pour, scoop, sort, and create stories together, they are building important developmental foundations through hands on experiences.
We believe childhood should be filled with wonder, exploration, and meaningful play, and we love creating spaces where learning feels magical.

Today, a couple of our 2nd grade boys noticed that one of our outdoor sinks was clogged and without hesitation, they asked for gloves, soap, and sponges and took it upon themselves to fix it. No prompting, just initiative in action!
Moments like this beautifully showcase ownership, responsibility, and pride in their environment. When children are given the space and trust to step up, they begin to see themselves as capable contributors. These kinds of experiences build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of responsibility. These are the type of lessons that reach far beyond the classroom.
At Shady Oak Christian School we strive each day to create an environment where children feel empowered, take initiative, and care for their community. We are so proud of our students for living out these values! 💛

Our 1st and 2nd grade students had a wonderful time at their Art Showcase today—a beautiful culmination of all the mediums they've explored throughout the year! From vibrant paintings to creative mixed media pieces, their work reflected both skill and imagination. The showcase also highlighted their growing knowledge of influential artists such as Georges Seurat, Romero Britto, and Henri Rousseau, just to name a few.
It was especially meaningful to watch our students confidently walk through the gallery, sharing stories behind their artwork and recalling their favorite projects.
Their excitement and pride truly brought the event to life!
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible art specialist, Mrs.
Wheatley, for pouring so much love and knowledge into our students this year. Because of her, our kiddos have developed a deep appreciation for the arts that will stay with them for years to come.

You might find our kiddos climbing the mighty oak trees that shade our magical little school because these moments build more than just memories.
Tree climbing strengthens coordination, balance, and overall motor skills while encouraging problem-solving, confidence, and social connection. It’s in these outdoor adventures that children take healthy risks, build resilience, and grow in independence.
At Shady Oak Christian School, we nurture these developmental skills through hands on, play based learning experiences that invite children to explore, create, and thrive in meaningful ways.
