We are saddened to share the passing of Model Lab Class of 1988 alumna Catherine (Cathy) Elizabeth Jones. She was the beloved daughter of Dr. Sanford L. Jones and the late June Elizabeth Daugherty Jones. A celebration of Cathy's life will be held at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, KY, at 2 p.m. on September 29, 2026. An earlier celebration will be held at Pier 35 in New York, NY, at 2 p.m. on September 9, 2026.

Cathy graduated with honors from Model Laboratory School in 1988 and went on to be an accomplished Model grad and professional architect. She completed her Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Kentucky in 1993, followed by her Master of Science in Advanced Architecture Design from Columbia University, New York, NY, in 1995.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jones family during this time.

✈️🇺🇸 Congratulations to Model Lab alumna 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 "𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗼" 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗻 ('𝟭𝟰) on her selection as the Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds!

As the Public Affairs Officer, Capt. Durbin serves as the voice of one of the nation's most elite flight demonstration teams, leading strategic communications, marketing, recruiting, and outreach while representing the professionalism and excellence of the U.S. Air Force. She is a 2018 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

We're especially excited to share that the Thunderbirds will be in Kentucky for the 2026 Owensboro Air Show September 11-13! Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday, making it a great opportunity to witness one of the nation's premier aerial demonstration teams while cheering on one of Model's own. Join us in congratulating Hannah on this incredible achievement, and if you're able, consider attending the air show to show your support for a fellow Model alum. Congratulations, Capt. Hannah Durbin! Once a Patriot, always a Patriot. 🎉👏

We are saddened to share the loss of a former longtime Model educator, Mrs. Hoffmann. We send our condolences to the Hoffmann and Lane families, and thank them for always supporting the value of a Model education. Thank you, Mrs. Hoffmann for the impact you made on countless students.

We're putting together some fun content for Back to School, and we want it grounded in real details from Model's history—not the stuff everyone already knows, but the small things you remember like:
• Something that felt totally normal then but sounds wild now
• What lunch, recess, class, or attendance actually looked like
• A rule, routine, or building quirk that doesn't exist anymore

Congratulations to a 1980 Model alumna! We are very proud and excited to have you on the governing board for Model Laboratory School and Eastern Kentucky University.

Gov. Andy Beshear has appointed Jean Chenault Logue of Richmond, Kentucky, to the Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents.

We want to give a BIG shoutout and congratulations to two Model Laboratory School Class of 2023 alumni: Serena Florell and Ciah Marks! These former Patriots received the 2026 Student-Produced Script award for "Love Radio" at the Radio Mercury Awards on June 3, 2026. We are so proud of you both!

Serena attended the award ceremony to accept the honor: "What started as an extra credit opportunity has become something so fulfilling and such a new opportunity for me. I am so excited to be in a room of people that are in the radio industry and know so much about media."

Ciah shared, "Who knew an extra credit assignment would turn into an award-winning, producer-approved radio spot!? Inspired by our shared love of reality TV, we wanted to create something that captured the humor, drama, and recognizable storytelling that have made reality television such a significant part of today's media landscape. Reality TV has become a part of culture that sparks conversation and builds community, and we had a lot of fun translating that energy into audio."
