The field study trips our Middle Schoolers take fully embody the RMS values through Collaboration, Community, Authenticity, Respect, and Excellence.
The bonds these students create on these trips are unbreakable and the memories last a lifetime.
This week, they enjoyed time on a working farm in Asheville, NC, experiencing all that is needed to care for the environment.
From the pictures alone, we know there are meaningful stories to go along with them and we can't wait to hear them upon their return!

Because of you, our wonderful sponsors, and item donations from our community, we reached our Spring Fling goal of $80,000!
We had a great time celebrating with all of you at the Jepson Alumni Center at the University of Richmond last weekend and we hope you did, too!
All money raised from this event goes directly towards our annual fund, which provides financial aid for many of our families, professional development for our teachers and staff, arts programming through the Visiting Scholars program, campus enhancements and much more!

A BIG congratulations to our 6th grade Experts!
In the final year of the six year Elementary program, students are invited to study a topic of their choice. Motivated by their interest in their chosen topics, they engage in weekly lessons and assignments for a year during which they develop their reading, writing, and presentation skills. Highlights are then shared with our larger community as they wrap up this RMS tradition.
We heard a variety of topics such as wildlife photography, taxidermy, E-sports, bioluminescence, commercial aviation, invasive species, and the lifecycle of a star.
Way to go, Falcons!

In Montessori, this means embracing our love of nature and celebrating our earth by planting new life.
Lessons on lifecycles are starting in our classrooms and our hands-on approach to learning allows our students to put their lessons into practice.

Our Middle School program houses incredible 7th and 8th grade students using our Learner Outcomes as guideposts for our curriculum.
Autonomy and Collaboration is one of our most important learner outcomes. Grace and Courtesy is a Montessori principle seen throughout all of our curriculums. It gives our students the language and the space to work alone or with others.
With our Middle School students, we are able to see their understanding of collaboration, cooperation, and negotiation in both solo work and group projects throughout their time in our program. It is how they build interpersonal skills as well as the skills needed to be an independent thinker.

This week, we hosted a very special group of people (more details to come!).
All prep work that went into this process from our faculty and staff left us feeling humbled after these visitors shared their over arching thoughts on RMS as they finished up their observations.
We wanted to share a few of their comments because we feel they encompass everything we internally know and feel about our community every single day and we are so grateful to hear they were seen and felt from outside guests:
"You are an incredibly warm and welcoming community. Your warmth radiated out to each of us and made us feel as though we were part of the family.
You live your mission every day which is inspiring to us as fellow educators.
Your fidelity to Montessori philosophy and methodology is evident in all you do, which is deeply gratifying, especially to the Montessorians among us.
Your students are beautiful, delightful, and precious and it was a gift to us to be able to spend time among them.
Each of us learned something from you over the last few days, whether it was a unique program, a particular method, a tradition, or a way of talking about what you do. We will carry these ideas with us."

Our prominent flag display represents our diverse community of families and staff, and we are proud to educate 34 zip codes, 38% students of color, and 21 nationalities.
