Homecoming and Reunion Weekend is officially in full swing! 😍

We kicked off the celebrations last night with our Alumni Connections Social. Bringing Earlhamites together across generations for conversation, new connections and stories about the many paths life takes after Earlham.

The evening continued with a screening of Women Laughing, a documentary by Earlham alumna and longtime New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly’77, followed by a Q&A moderated by Maggie Thomas, Associate Dean of Social Sciences and Professor of Psychology. 🎬

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us for these special events! We’re so happy to have our alumni back on campus and can’t wait for a weekend full of reconnections, memories and Earlham spirit.

💜A little purple goes a long way.

Today, students, faculty and staff participated in Purple Thursday. A national day of action during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to show solidarity with survivors, and raise awareness about domestic violence.

Organized by Earlham’s Title IX Office, this campus-wide effort reminds us that building a safer community takes all of us. By breaking the silence, supporting survivors, promoting healthy relationships and working to prevent violence, we can help create a culture of respect and care.

Thank you to everyone who showed up in purple, or simply showed up to learn more about the day and helped make this important message visible across our campus community. 💜

It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming students back to campus for the first day of classes, with a whole semester of possibilities ahead.

Now, seven weeks later, students are returning from early semester break and stepping into the second half of fall semester. 😍

The mornings are getting crisper, and the trees are beginning to turn shades of gold and crimson. You know what that means… 🍁🍂 The magic of fall is just beginning.

Earlham College celebrates the remarkable life and legacy of Margaret Hamilton, Class of 1958, a pioneering computer scientist and systems engineer whose software helped make the Apollo moon landings possible.

We are saddened by her death, but grateful for the opportunity to have celebrated her extraordinary achievements throughout her long life.

A mathematics major and philosophy minor at Earlham, Margaret led the team that developed the in-flight software for NASA’s Apollo missions and coined the term “software engineering.”

Her many honors included the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Earlham’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 2009. In May 2025, Earlham also awarded her an honorary Doctor of Science degree.

Her pioneering spirit and remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations of Earlhamites.

“What does it mean to participate in a democracy?”

Hundreds gathered at Earlham College Thursday evening for a conversation with former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, moderated by civil rights attorney and Earlham alum Sunu Chandy’94.

Holder reflected on his historic tenure as the first African American to serve as U.S. Attorney General, the state of American democracy, and the importance of civic participation. He also spoke about the common ground that connects Americans across political differences and the responsibility each of us has to participate in our democracy.

Before the talk, selected students had the opportunity to meet with Holder. Following the conversation, Holder and Chandy stayed to sign books and connect with members of the Earlham community.

An evening of conversation, reflection and engagement that extended beyond the stage and into our campus community.
