Richmonders for Effective Governance of Schools Richmonders for Effective Governance of Schools (REGS for short), an independent, non-partisan group of concerned citizens from across Richmond.

We believe excellent public schools in Richmond require a governance-minded, equity-focused school board. REGS is an independent and non-partisan coalition of community leaders and concerned citizens who strive to ensure effective school board practices in service to improved outcomes for all students. Our north star is the belief that every child in Richmond deserves an excellent public school education. We believe that a high-functioning governance-minded, equity-focused school board is key to this vision. REGS recruits and supports School Board candidates, and supports School Board members who:
1) Passionately believe all children can learn;
2) Are committed to governance that puts students, rather than political or other agendas, first;
3) Represent the needs and interests of children from both their own districts and Richmond as a whole;
4) Have high expectations for student achievement and teacher instruction;
5) Actively contribute to a well-functioning board that drives continuous improvement;
6) Recognize that a school board’s role is to focus on policy rather than operational issues;
7) Lean into the need for transparency in all matters in accordance with law and policy, and
8) Believe that everyone benefits when the Board and District leadership form a unified team.
9) Advance policies that ensure equity and access across all students in the district.
