Will be at the Gathering of Descendants Day event, located at Fort Boonesborough State Park on Saturday!! Come say hi. We’ll be happy to see your smiling faces!
This Saturday, June 20th, our annual Gathering of Descendants Day event will be held in the fort from 9-4:45pm. In addition to getting a chance to find out about our settlers from the many family groups and historical societies there will be a presentation on how to use land grants for genealogical research. In the afternoon Randal Jones, noted Boone historian, will do a presentation in the fort and Nancy O’Malley, the archaeologist who led the two digs will be at the original fort site for a discussion on her findings. Our living historians and volunteers will be demonstrating several pioneer skills throughout the day. The gift shop will be open and concessions are available. Admission is $8.00 for adults, children (6-12) are $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Public parking will be in the HWY 388 lot across from the picnic area entrance with free shuttles.

Mary Fairfax Childs was born May 25th, 1846, in Kentucky, post celebrating her birthday
Hey all! Yesterday would have been Mary Fairfax Childs’s birthday! In celebration, we wanted to show off one of the poems this Kentucky-born author has written in our collection! This poem, titled “The Little Nazarene”, is about the birth of Christ and we hope it can serve as inspiration for other Kentucky authors out there!

Today is and one of our students has chosen the pictures for this ! Earth Day was first held on April 22, 1970, to raise awareness of environmental issues following a massive 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill. EKU always has events for Earth Day and we have several pictures in our collections of tree planting, concerts, and river clean-up events. You can check those out at our website!
