Dear Students:
We have just received information on the Virginia Teacher Scholarship Loan Program for 2012-2013. We have a short turn around time and the applications are due by July 13th to the Virginia Department of Education. Please submit your application to me in the School of Education Dean's Office, Oliver Hall, Room 2090 by Tuesday, July 10, 2012. The scholarship provides up to $3,720 per year to eligible students. These scholarships are available to full-time and part-time students in an approved teacher education program, have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.7, and are nominated by their university or college. Also, candidates must meet one or more of the following criteria:
1) be enrolled in a program leading to an endorsement in a critical shortage areas (Special Education, Elementary Education, Mathematics Education (6-12), Science Education, School Counselor or Health and Physical Education);
2) be a male teacher candidate in an elementary education program; or
3) be a minority teacher candidate enrolled in any teacher endorsement areas.

The VCU School of Education offers students more than 30 scholarships. These scholarships provide the opportunity to support outstanding students as they pursue their academic degrees. All SOE students are encouraged to apply for the scholarships that fit their major and student classification.

You must take and pass these tests this summer as you must submit your passing scores with your application for graduate teaching internship/student teaching on September 15th! April Marie "Sweet" Hart Scholarship The April Marie "Sweet" Hart Scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Ms. April Marie Hart. April was an accomplished VCU student who planned to be a first grade teacher. She loved children and cheerleading, and especially loved teaching gymnastics to her students at the East Richmond Gymnastics Center in Richmond. April passed away June 25, 2003 at the age of 20. The scholarship is renewable for up to four additional years provided the student remains in good academic standing. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual who is a student majoring in a discipline within the College of Humanities and Sciences or School or Education, plans to become a teacher and is on the education track, has or has had a demonstrated interest in gymnastics or cheerleading, and possesses a minimum GPA of 3.0. Important reminder: Henrico County Public School’s Student Teacher/Counselor Intern Reception is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden from 5-6 pm. This is a mandatory meeting for all student teachers/counselor interns in Henrico County this semester. Please mark your calendars!
The VCU School of Education Diploma Presentation Ceremony will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 1:15pm in the Greater Richmond Convention Center Ballrooms B and C. The Reception to Honor Graduates and Their Guests will immediately follow the Diploma Ceremony in the Lobby of Ballrooms B and C.
Students who are planning to take Praxis on November 14th in Richmond-- Please be aware that the Sun Marathon will take place that day and you should plan to allow more time for travel and parking.

Reminder: Students Planning to Student Teach/Intern in Fall 2010
If you are planning to student teach/intern in Fall 2010, you must submit passing Praxis II scores with your application.
· The student teaching intern application due date is February 16, 2010
· You must register by December 10, 2009 to take the Praxis II test on January 9, 2010
· Late registration must be received by December 17, 2009 and includes a $45 late fee.
Please visit the ETS website (www.ets.org/praxis ) or the bins outside of the Student Services Center for test registration information and administration dates.
