Ms. Victoriano reminds our students that leadership doesn’t always have to be loud. With her gentle voice, calm presence, and thoughtful way of teaching Spanish, she demonstrates a quieter kind of strength—the ability to listen, observe, encourage, and allow others the confidence to find their own voices. Simon Sinek teaches that great leadership begins with caring for and listening to others, and Ms. Victoriano models that beautifully. At AAE, this daily exposure to Spanish is also intentional: we are building our students’ ears, confidence, vocabulary, and comfort with another language now, preparing them to enter middle school ready to embrace more advanced second-language study. Long before I had the language to define our leadership philosophy, I was living it.
For nearly 30 years, AAE has operated on one intentionally different belief: regardless of title, position, or administrative responsibility, everyone remains connected to the classroom and to the children we serve.
At AAE, teaching is not separate from leadership—it is the heart of leadership.
Our administrators teach.
Our teachers lead.
Our leaders mentor.
And every one of us remains actively engaged in the daily work of educating children.
Perhaps that is our powerhouse.
Leadership at AAE isn’t found on an office door or underneath someone’s name. It is found in classrooms—in the teacher who recognizes a child’s potential, raises the bar, builds confidence, encourages curiosity, and takes responsibility for helping that child become more than they believed possible.
Titles may change. People may follow different paths. But our philosophy remains steady.
We are here to teach children exceptionally well and to develop confident thinkers, articulate communicators, compassionate citizens, and future leaders.
After nearly three decades, I realize something very clearly:
We haven’t simply been teaching leadership at AAE.
We’ve been living it.

To make their learning even more meaningful, students will visit different Mexican restaurants, where they can practice ordering and speaking in Spanish while discovering the foods and culture behind the language. As the Academy of Academic Excellence celebrates 30 years of inspiring young minds, we wanted this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week to be unforgettable. Rather than giving traditional gifts, every member of our faculty received a Lilly Pulitzer outfit—a joyful way to thank the remarkable educators who fill our classrooms with kindness, confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm every single day.
The next morning, something magical happened. Our campus felt brighter, our teachers smiled a little bigger, parents couldn’t stop complimenting them, and our students absolutely loved seeing their teachers dressed in such colorful, cheerful designs. This photograph is about so much more than beautiful clothing. It captures the heart of our school and celebrates the extraordinary educators who make learning meaningful, joyful, and inspiring every day.
To the team at Lilly Pulitzer, thank you for helping us create one of the happiest memories in our school’s history. Your vibrant designs brought smiles to our faculty, our families, and our students, reminding us that a little color can brighten an entire community.
