Madison High School of Richmond, Kentucky

Richmond, Kentucky's high school from 1921-1989. Madison High School was an independent city high school in Richmond, Kentucky (Madison County, Kentucky).

The school's enrollment (grades 9-12) never exceeded 400 and it never graduated a class of more than 90 students in its 70 year existence. The official name of the school was Madison High and Elementary School. Grades 1-12 were taught through the 1971-72 school year.

Susan F. Blevins (18 Nov 1940 - 8 Dec 2018) passed away Saturday morning after a long illness. She was a mathematics teacher at Madison High School from 1963 thru 1989 when the school closed its doors. Mrs. Blevins finished her teaching career at Madison Southern High School in 1991.

Susan was the wife of Burdett H. Blevins (12 Dec 1937 - 9 July 2009) and the couple had one son, Michael 'Mike' Blevins (25 Jun 1968 - 29 Nov 2011).

There will be a visitation from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12th at the Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home. Services will follow at 6:00 PM.

Most of our Madison High graduate members will remember Mrs. Blevins. She started her career at Madison when my brother, Monty Joe, was a senior (1963-64). She was the yearbook sponsor when I attended Madison and I served on her staff for three years (1973-76).

The first backfield Roy Kidd ever coached...

The 1956 Madison-Model Royal Purples went undefeated in the regular season and captured the school's first CKC title. Charlie Harkleoad was a senior left halfback, Johnny Green was a senior fullback, Allen Hughes was a senior right half back and Jimmy Hinkle was a senior quarterback.
