Nine years ago, Wild Fern Montessori, then Virginia Community Montessori School, didn’t begin as something I built alone — it was something a small collective brought to life together.

Our very first classroom lived in a basement at the Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen. A tiny space, a handful of children, and a shared belief: that Montessori education should be beautiful, accessible, and rooted in equity.

That mission hasn’t changed.

What has changed is everything else. The people, the spaces, the seasons we’ve moved through to keep going.

Recently, I walked back into that very first classroom for the first time since we left. My daughter — now 13 — danced just upstairs, performing for friends and family. And below it all was the space where this journey quietly began.

I could still picture it — shelves rolled out each morning, carefully prepared work, everything packed away again at the end of the day. Built and rebuilt, over and over, with intention and care.

There’s something about returning to where it all started. You see not just the place, but the person you were — and everything that’s changed since.

Wild Fern today looks very different than it did then. And yet, at its core, it’s still rooted in that same hope: that something meaningful can grow, even in small, humble spaces.

I feel gratitude for those who were there in the beginning, and those that are here now 🌿

🌿 Our Five-Day Montessori Rhythm 🌿

In a Montessori classroom, learning unfolds slowly and beautifully—on each child’s own timeline. That’s why our program is rooted in a consistent five-day rhythm. It helps children feel secure, build confidence, and truly settle into their classroom community.

We also know this transition is a big one—for children and parents. Letting little ones grow in independence takes time, and we’re here to support families every step of the way with care, flexibility, and trust.

It’s not about more school. It’s about less restarting—and more becoming. 💛

On Saturday, we gathered for holiday crafts, music, and a hot chocolate bar! Our wreath orders may have had shipping delays, but that didn't stop us from enjoying each other's company ❤️ Thank you to our Parent Committee (and extended family) for the yums and planning! ☕️ 🍪 🎶 🧶

THANK YOU 🛠️ to our amazing parents who endured a chilly day of putting together new classroom shelving and cubbies in our new building. They started a whole assembly line and knocked it out of the park. I just did my best to stay out of the way 😅
