From blank wall to this. 🎨✨
Every Crestmont student painted a piece of this Frank Stella–inspired mural — all year long, one session at a time. Thank you to our teacher Amy, for making this happen.
Come see it for yourself! 🌈
Crestmont School
Crestmont School is a small, community-driven TK-8 cooperative school located in the beautiful Richmond Hills since 1969.
Crestmont School is a unique cooperative TK-8 school located in the scenic hills of Richmond, California. It was founded in 1969 with the goal of creating an environment that would encourage curiosity, critical thinking, community spirit and academic excellence for children of all backgrounds.
Our school came alive last Thursday — and we are still beaming. 🎭 Every class. Every age. Pure magic.
🌿 The Willows performed a play adapted from Mo Willems’ book Elephant & Piggie — and the audience ate the cuteness all up.
🍃 The Live Oaks brought Jon Muth’s Zen Shorts to life with stories of letting go, acceptance, and generosity.
✨ The Redwoods wrote their own original plays about the mythology of constellations.
🌲 The Sequoias wrote and performed a play about Crestmont itself.
Handmade sets. Homemade costumes. Top-notch singing. Stellar comedic timing. And a room full of incredibly proud families.
To our teachers — thank you for making this happen. To our performers — we are so proud of who you are and who you’re becoming. 🌟

Our wonderful volunteer Kishore who taught our Redwoods students yoga is now introducing our upper grade students to the game of Cricket🏏
We are grateful to have family members in our co-op who take the time to share their passions with our students 👏

Just one mile from campus lies Alvarado Park, nestled within Wildcat Canyon Regional Park — and our students know exactly how to make the most of it. 🌿
On a recent outdoor learning day, they walked there and spent the morning fully immersed in the natural world. They moved silently through the park, sharpening their senses to the sounds, smells, and sights around them. They gathered natural materials to build collaborative mandalas. And at the creek, they collected water samples and peered through magnifying glasses to find the micro-organisms living just beneath the surface.
Science, mindfulness, and art — one morning, zero classroom walls.
When nature is this close, it becomes the classroom. And that's exactly how we like it.

What does it look like when a school community truly invests in its kids?
This weekend at Crestmont, parents showed up to campus for our Work Party 🔨 — one of our many co-op traditions. Parents spent the morning deep-cleaning classrooms, organizing supplies, painting, doing repairs, and cataloging books, all side by side.
At Crestmont, every family participates. Not because they have to (well, technically they do 😄) — but because they get it. This is how we keep tuition accessible, our facilities beautiful, and our community genuinely connected.
New friendships are made. Kids are taken care of on-site. And the school gets better every single time.
Curious about what co-op school life is really like? We'd love to show you. 🔗 [Link in bio]

Our staff doesn't just teach — they show up for our kids in every possible way, every single day. So we showed up for them. 🍽️✨
Crestmont families recently came together to bring the annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon to life — parents cooked, parents set up, and parents watched the kids so that our staff could enjoy every bite of a meal made just for them.
This is what a co-op is all about.
We are endlessly grateful for the people who make Crestmont the extraordinary place it is. Here's to you — and to finishing this school year strong together! 🎉

🛍️ Tacos. Lemonade. Flowers. Cookies. Jewelry. Trading cards. AND kindergartners selling for the very first time. 🥹
This year’s final flea market had it ALL — and every cent raised goes to nonprofits our students hand-picked. 💛
We’ll be counting up the total soon and can’t wait to share who benefits. The generosity of this community never gets old. 🎉

Did you know that in the 1970s, Crestmont School took learning on the road—literally—by transforming a school bus into a roaming classroom, bringing lessons “on location”? 🚍✨
While the bus is no longer with us, we continue to embrace the application of learning, research, exploration and experiential learning through field trips.
This week our whole school took a field trip to see a live performance at Presidio Dance Theatre presidiodancetheatre where dance was used as a powerful tool to explore themes of cultural identity, equity, and women’s empowerment. 💃
The performances brought our social justice curriculum to life—encouraging students to reflect, connect, and think critically about the world around them.
We’re grateful for opportunities like these that get students out into the community to have experiences that deepen learning and inspire meaningful conversations.

Our Live Oaks (2nd/3rd grade) students kicked off an exciting engineering project this week—designing and building climate-adapted homes from around the world! 🌍🏡
Each team is exploring how factors like temperature, rainfall, snow, and flooding impact home design, while also thinking critically about how to reduce environmental impact. From choosing sustainable materials to incorporating features like solar panels and green roofs, students are tackling real-world challenges with creativity and purpose.
Collaboration is at the heart of this project. Students are sharing ideas, materials, techniques—and even learning from setbacks—so that everyone can succeed together.
We can’t wait to showcase their finished homes at the end of May in our classroom and during Play Night on May 28th. Stay tuned!✨

Last month, we had the pleasure of welcoming back Rebecca the Bubble Lady to Crestmont School—and the magic is still in the air ✨🫧
From shimmering bubbles floating across the room to the laughter and wide-eyed wonder of our students, it was one of those moments that perfectly captures what our community is all about. The joy, the curiosity, the shared experience—it’s something that stays with you long after the bubbles disappear.
Events like these are more than just fun (though there’s plenty of that!). They’re an invitation for prospective families to step into our world, connect with our community, and see learning come alive in unexpected, delightful ways.
We’re still smiling looking back at these photos—such a beautiful reminder of the imagination and energy that fills our campus every day 💫
Curious to experience some of the magic for yourself? Join us for our upcoming Flea Market on Friday, May 8 from 1:30–2:30!
Our students will be selling handmade items to raise money for nonprofits they care deeply about—it’s a meaningful, student-driven event you won’t want to miss.
