Harvie Elementary School

While summer may be coming to a close for our teachers and students, our amazing School Facilities Team has been hard at work all summer. This week, our administrators were able to honor all their hardwork with a lunch from Jackie's. We are so thankful to our team for all of the hard work they do behind the scenes to make sure our building remains safe and clean! We are so excited to welcome our new teachers next week and get this year officially rolling!

Today our team leads met to plan for the new school year, focusing on building a culture of academic risk-taking and productive struggle. Our coaches were also leveling up at their Coaching Kickoff Conference. We are so excited to be back with each other to prepare for an unforgettable, ALL IN school year!

We are just one week away from our Principal's Playground Party! Mark your calendars and come out to meet our new principal, Dr. Williams. We can't wait to see you on August 6th from 4-6pm! Be sure to bring your lawn chair!

Harvie family, please give a big welcome to our new Student Support Teacher, Dr. William Caten!

Dr. Bill Caten is excited to join the Harvie Family as he begins his 31st year in education. He holds an Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. During his tenure as a Principal, Dr. Caten successfully guided multiple schools to reach and maintain full state accreditation targets. He is champion for innovation and introduced the first STEAM Lab and National Elementary Junior Honor Society at his previous school. His deep instructional foundation as a Title I math, 4th and 5th grade, and special education teacher allows him to support a wide range of student learning needs. Dr. Caten prioritizes student well-being and building strong home-school connections, having led community engagement and literacy initiatives. Most recently, his work as a School Quality Specialist has prepared him to provide expert student support and instructional coaching. He is eager to get to know our Harvie students and families while empowering our entire school community.
