Richmond Waldorf School

Richmond Waldorf School Established in 1996, Richmond Waldorf is an independent non-profit school for Pre-K to 8th grade. RichmondWaldorf.com

Richmond Waldorf School is a place where all children flourish. Our pre-K-Grade 8 education provides children with an unhurried environment, and nurtures imagination and creativity balanced with academic rigor. Students benefit from classrooms of only 12 -16 students, guided by teachers who progress through the grades with their class to foster a strong student-teacher-parent partnership. Our camp

us features a gymnasium, stage, two playgrounds, a bike pump track and spacious classrooms. We often host events to demonstrate to our students the importance of being part of a larger community.

When our upper grades students step into the woodwork shop to meet with Mr. Reid each week, they are engaging in a living lab of applied geometry. Translating a 2D design into a sturdy 3D object helps abstract math concepts, like angles, symmetry, and precise measurement, to click into place for students.

When a student takes a raw, rough block of timber and spends weeks shaping, carving, and smoothing it with hand tools, they are developing a deep, tactile connection to the material world and to their own abilities.

There is a quiet, grounded pride in holding an object that exists purely because of your own patience, care, and labor. That sense of capability is something our students carry into every area of their lives. ✨

It has been such a joy watching our Grades students make good use of our new playground this past week! Every piece of equipment was thoughtfully considered based on what our students were needing from their playspace.

We are so grateful to all that made this possible for RWS, especially our donors. It's because of all of you that our school is able to continue to grow and thrive.

Each year we begin the first day of school by welcoming our new 1st Grade class to the Grades program with a Rose Ceremony- a longstanding tradition in Waldorf schools around the world.

Our entire student body gets to bear witness to the special moment that each 1st Grader meets their new teacher and their 8th Grade buddy and walks through the arch, signifying the beginning of their Waldorf journey.

Relationship and community are at the heart of our work here at Richmond Waldorf School, and this special first day tradition speaks volumes to both. 💕

We’re wishing all of our classes a beautiful school year ahead, thanks to all who joined us on Wednesday to kick off the year! ✨

From cooperative play that supports classroom dynamics to track and field skills, circus arts, and team games, Movement Arts at Richmond Waldorf School gives students space to practice physical stamina, social skills, and creative performance.

Across all grades, our program weaves in developmental movement patterns, somatic awareness, and functional movement to build confidence, coordination, and community from the inside out.

Shout out to our Movement teacher, Ms. Elizabeth, who makes every Movement class challenging and fun for our students!
