Last week our first graders explored the magic of numbers, finding a five pointed star in an apple. Each star had 2 seeds in each point. 5 X 2=10!

Gorgeous new chalkboard spotted in the 6th grade as they begin their new Geology block.

Several weeks ago, our students had the absolute honor of working with renowned cellist, Christoph Wagner, during his week long residency at University of Richmond.

Christoph attended Waldorf schools throughout his entire education in his home country of Germany. It was there he was first introduced to the cello, and has since made a prestigious career for himself, performing all over the world.

Christoph was so excited to visit a Waldorf school in the states and performed both a concert for our student body as well as this Master Class for our strings students completely pro bono.

The magic and lifelong connection of Waldorf education in action! 🎶 ✨

This week, as part of their year long study of farming, our 3rd graders ventured to Farm to help with the fall harvest!

Our 5th Graders hosted a special visit today from the Damodar family, who shared all about the upcoming Hindu festival, Diwali!

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Our students tasted traditional Diwali sweets, painted clay diyas, beautified the front sidewalk with rangoli decorations and even received celebratory mehndi tattoos.

Happy Diwali to all who celebrate! 🎉 🎆

Our soccer team kicked off the season on Friday evening, and came home with a WIN! It’s so inspiring to see our students engage with each other in this way, and such fun to cheer them on. Go Gnomes! 🌈

Campus is a bit quieter this week with our 5th graders off on their first adventure of the school year- 3 days of camping and learning at the Spikenard Bee Sanctuary! 🐝

Last month, our 5th and 6th graders rounded out their year long study of Botany with an incredible 3-day camping trip at the Spikenard Bee Sanctuary. Alex, head beekeper at the sanctuary, provided our students with an enormous amount of hands on learning and interaction with these important pollinators. Our students came home invigorated by all they learned, and full of ideas on how our community can better support and care for the bees! 🐝

1st grade ushered in the sweet summertime today, and brought back a bounty of berries to share! 🍓

This week, we graduate this beautiful group of “Suns” from our Early Childhood program. ♥️

Next year, many of these smiling faces will make up our 1st grade class and begin their Grades journey as the RWS Class of 2030…! 🌈

New on the blog- we sat down with our music teacher, Catherine Flynn, as she wraps up her first year with us at RWS.

“I am a strong believer that everyone is a musician, and we are born with the ability to be musical. Music is a part of the world and it’s a part of life, and Waldorf has reiterated that for me.”

Over the past several weeks, the 3rd graders have been partnering with our woodworking teacher, Mr. Beverly, on a very special project.

Using what they’ve learned this year about measurement, they built an octogonal bench for the Early Childhood patio & play area.

It’s been a long three years since our community was last able to gather around the maypole and celebrate the coming of Spring with our May Faire. We made up for lost time, and loved every minute of it! 🌸
