Early detection is crucial to preventing liver disease. One of the simplest tests for liver disease is the FIB-4. The FIB-4 evaluates your liver's stiffness, or fibrosis. Your physician can easily calculate your FIB-4 score from your age and 3 numbers from your regular bloodwork. No additional needles necessary! Read more about the FIB-4. https://bit.ly/3TehqwZ

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. There are five main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E. These five types are of greatest concern because of the burden of illness and death they cause and the potential for outbreaks and epidemic spread.
Some forms can lead to liver failure, which can lead to death. But, with the existing prevention, testing and treatment services that are available, every hepatitis related death is preventable. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3mVy2q1

New U.S. research finds binge drinking and type 2 diabetes may be driving more serious fatty liver disease than previously estimated.
Using data from 41,100 adults, researchers, including our Dr. Juan Pablo Arab, recalibrated self-reported alcohol intake, because many people understate how much they drink. They assessed fatty liver with imaging/validated scores and defined binge drinking as 5+ drinks on one occasion at least once in the past year.
The study found that after adjustment, alcohol-related liver disease and “mixed” alcohol-plus-metabolic disease were far more common than earlier reports suggested. The study also linked these conditions to premature death, with alcohol-related liver disease showing the highest risk of early mortality.
What to do: If you binge drink or have type 2 diabetes and/or high blood pressure, talk with a healthcare provider about liver screening. Cutting back binge drinking and managing diabetes and blood pressure can reduce your risk. https://bit.ly/4wMaE07
