Bring nuclear chemistry to life in your classroom. NSTA's new case study, "Cardiac Imaging Using a Radioisotope," follows a dialogue between a cardiologist and patient to explore radioisotopes, half-life calculations, and radiation safety through a real medical diagnostic scenario. Students work through the diagnostic path, exploring the chemistry behind the radioisotope used in the test, including half-life calculations and radiation safety, while examining how nuclear medicine is applied in real cardiac care. 🫀⚛️

This week's featured Daily Do asks: "What solutions reduced malaria case numbers and deaths in Macha and Sub-Saharan Africa between 2000 and 2020?"

Students investigate real evidence to uncover the interventions behind two decades of progress against malaria, from the genetics and natural selection concepts behind drug resistance to the social and cultural factors that shaped how solutions were developed and adopted. This resource was developed in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University Press, the Johns Hopkins Office of Research, and Nobel laureate Dr. Peter Agre, and supported by Johns Hopkins Wavelengths.

Teams of two to four students take on a real-world problem, research the science and technology behind it, and imagine an innovative solution that could exist 10+ years from now.
