Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP)

Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (VASSP) VASSP is the statewide advocacy and outreach professional organization for school principals and assistant principals.

VASSP (www.vassp.org), founded in 1906 – incorporated in 1974 – is the seventh largest school administrators’ organization in the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ state affiliation network. VASSP offers more in-service opportunities for professional training and development for its members than any other state educational organization in the national network. VASSP promotes qua

lity education in Virginia, while supporting and defending the status and welfare of the building school administrator. In 1995 secondary school principals founded the Virginia Foundation for Educational Leadership (www.edleader.org) – a Pre-K through 16 nonprofit leadership learning organization designed to support and broaden the outreach opportunities of VASSP in providing through its own activities, financial, and volunteer support the educational, scientific, and charitable purposes of linking all education levels – preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and higher education – to create a comprehensive seamless system of leadership learning. In addition, VASSP keeps a standing presence at meetings of the Virginia Board of Education and Virginia General Assembly covering the House Education and Senate Education and Health Committees. Considerable work by VASSP on behalf of school principals and assistant principals takes place all throughout the year with members of the legislature, Board of Education, and governor’s office. The reputation of VASSP is based on a long record of sound and practical service to its members. Providing this service continues to be the key to the Association’s success in developing and maintaining an extremely loyal membership. In 1994 VASSP became the first state in the nation to become a unified dues affiliate of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (www.nassp.org). Together VASSP and NASSP provide members with unparalleled peer connections, outstanding research, and focused professional development services.
