The difference between kids who cry for weeks vs. those who skip in happily comes down to these 6 things:

1. Practice the morning routine 2 weeks before school starts
Don't wait until the first day to figure out timing. Wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth - rehearse it all. Your child's nervous system needs predictability, not surprises.

2. Visit the school playground during summer
Familiar spaces feel safe. Drive by, walk around, maybe even have a snack on the playground. When September comes, it won't feel like foreign territory.

3. Read books about starting school together every night
"The Kissing Hand", "First Day Jitters", "Llama Llama Misses Mama" - these aren't just cute stories. They're emotional preparation tools that normalize school feelings.

4. Role-play school scenarios at home
Practice raising hands, asking to use the bathroom, what to do if someone takes your toy. Confidence comes from knowing what to expect and how to handle it.

5. Establish a "worry time" 10 minutes daily
This is the game-changer most parents skip. Set a timer, let them share ALL their school fears, then close worry time. No school anxiety discussions outside this window. It contains the overwhelm.

6. Create a goodbye ritual that's the same every day
Three hugs, a special handshake, or "See you after snack time!" Consistency in goodbye moments creates security in separation.

The goal isn't perfection, it's preparation. Your September self will thank you for starting now.
