/ Fete at this past Sunday!
juice was flowing + so were great discussions. Panel led by set the tone for great convo by .drinks
Talked sustainability, intention with kindness, democratizing wine, fermentation and its divorce from US Culture (pun intended), so much more.
Wish the photos we took were as developed at the conversation. But that just means we were in the moment.
All jokes aside, folks are doing some really great things in wine, and as we love, using wine as a vessel for bigger conversations.
Shoutout to all the wine people in VA Wine doing cool things. It’s an honor to witness! Feels timely that this article by came out today. giving well deserved credit to VA Wine 🍷
Inspired and looking to do an InWine event soon. So stay tuned! 👀

SUMMER WOLFF
Summer Wolff has had just about every wine job in the book - wine director, importer, head somm, wine broker, a marketing and export assistant, a partner in a custom wine tour company in Tuscany, a winemaker’s wife – and of fall 2021– a winemaker. Based out of their organic farm in Italy’s Monferrato region, Summer makes up the Cascina Iuli wine label with her husband; she runs Hootananny Wines, a natural wine import company, with her best friend; and produces her own natural wines under the name Azienda Agricola Summer Wolff. She calls for natural wines to embody purity, grace, elegance, to be clean and individual, with a responsibility, above all, to the land you’re farming.
EVAN LEWANDOWSKI
Evan Lewandowski, is the heart of Ruth Lewandowski Wines. Lewandowski Wines are based on Evan’s early principles of sourcing fruit from organically farmed, old vine sites in California's Mendocino County. His philosophies of winemaking and farming – and many other parts of his life – are all rooted in the cycle of life. The name Ruth stems from the Book of Ruth, which depicts the natural cycle of death + redemption.
NÚRIA AVINYÓ
Núria Avinyó is at the helm of the next generation of natural winemakers. She works with her father Manel Avinyó, who began the project Clos Lentiscus in 2002, on their biodynamic vineyard just south of Barcelona, Spain. Working mainly with native grape varieties, they strongly believe in farming without the use of pesticides or herbicides and follow biodynamic operations. Núria has been honing in on her craft alongside her father since her late teens, now putting out her own creations for Clos Lentiscus stamped with her name. She affectionately describes her wines as natural Catalan wines made with amor. Núria comes from a generational connection to her land but has a strong vision for what winemaking might look like in the coming years.

Introduuuuuccciiinnng to the InWine team! We are so excited Makayla (she/her) will be contributing to our What’s Weird? blog. She’s passionate and fun and has one of the best smiles in town 😀 Her first post is up now — link in bio 🔗 It’s required summer reading before you start drinking al fresco too seriously.
When we met Makayla, we asked her, how’d you get into the wild world of wine?
“I first got into wine during my last year in college. My heavy course load and impending graduation had me itching to get out of the dorms. A local wine shop in the area had free tastings on Thursdays which I used as an excuse to get out. Soon I made it a weekly ritual. I would talk to their sommelier and learn more about different regions that were featured. Before this, my wine understanding was limited to a box Franzia. Visiting the shop allowed me to see how unique and inspiring wine can be if you are willing to try something new.
Since then, I have tried to taste and learn as much as I can about wine cultivation and production. From listening to wine podcasts, weekend trips to Charlottesville tasting rooms, and visiting female-owned wine shops in Porto, I enjoy learning about the complexities and craftsmanship that goes into a bottle. There is always more to learn with wine. You never get bored!”
And when she’s not playing volleyball or drinking at one of the many wine bars around town, you can find her working in the tech industry as a project manager.
Welcome Makayla! We’re so happy you’re here.
