Cate Hardcorn and Abby Otto headed into the weekend ready for anything...
Mainly work.
But still ready, none the less.
This picture was from pumpkin planting last Thursday but I just realized I forgot to post it up. Have a great weekend, Colonels!

Spa Day!
For the cows.
Not us.
For us it was just hot.
Today we had our every 4 month visit from our hoof trimmer! Brandon Beavers takes awesome care of our ladies hooves, and it's always great to catch up and see everyone walk back into the barn on fresh trims!

You've probably seen Stephan Samuel leading the trombone section with the in the Fall, but this Summer he's joining us as an AGR 301 Student!
Stephan is finishing up his Bachelor's Degree in Music Theory and Composition and simultaneously finishing up an Associates Degree in Agriculture! We can't wait to watch Stephan grow and learn with us this Summer and look forward to highlighting his achievements!

And just like that, 5 days after seeding, the first pumpkins are breaking through the soil.
This little one is in our stacker / novelty pumpkin patch. The jack o' lanterns, medium orange and white pumpkins should be poking up any day!

Don't worry... the piglet is absolutely fine. They just don't know how to speak to us in English yet so they just scream incoherently for a second.
Thankfully, being a Monday morning, we understand the message loud and clear.
The difference is that now the piglet is back to sleep on their cozy heat pad.
Happy Monday!

This afternoon we got started on our pumpkin planting! We didn't get done... but should wrap up tomorrow. We are going for bigger and better than ever this year... and stay tuned for a surprise Fall update in the coming weeks.
Also, don't worry about the green you see us seeding through.... it will be return to the soil soon enough.
Huge thank you to our student workers Abby Otto and Tabitha Neace for helping us finish up seeing the white ones (moonshine) this afternoon!
So this post may not be as dairy as others will be this month... but we did score a picture with the beautiful Stateland Dairy in the background.

It's always a great day when we get to see students learning what they're capable of!
This morning our student employee Tabitha Neace was able to work alongside our new summer AGR 301 student Cate Hardcorn through morning dairy chores.
Once chores wrapped up they moved on to learning how to draw a blood sample from a cow so that we can check to see if the animal is pregnant! Both ladies pulled a perfect sample on their first try... and seeing that light in their eyes once they learn they can do something they never knew that they could is what we are all here for.
Great job, Tabitha and Cate!

Happy World Milk Day from our lovely and hard working ladies and the rest of us here at EKU Meadowbrook Farm and EKU Stateland Dairy!
We may be partial to celebrating these lovely ladies every day... but wheh we see that there is a day slated for World Milk Day and even that June is National Dairy Month here in the United States... we are always happy to give them an extra spotlight.
