The Week of the Young Child® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Week of the Young Child was first established in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life.
Last week, ECDC had an exciting and busy time participating in Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work-Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday and Family Friday!

On Tuesday, ECDC celebrated Random Acts of Kindness week by spreading joy with kind gestures of lollipops and flowers for over 300 students, faculty, staff and other members of our campus community!
We believe strongly that kindness matters. And science supports us! Studies have shown that children who engage in kind behaviors tend to have stronger communication skills, have higher self-esteem, increased resilience in social situation and even show better academic performance! We actively teach kindness – but not just to shape positive behavior; we want to prepare children for a future in which they can solve conflicts respectfully, navigate relationships with success and feel confident in their abilities to make our world a better place!

On Thursday, ECDC had so much fun as parents, family and friends joined us for an evening of creating Valentine Cards to share the love within our community.
These Valentine masterpieces were then delivered to local Police Officers, Fire Fighters, patients at Baptist Health and Dominion Senior Living of Richmond.
