“Yesterday a violent shooting occurred, this time following a Richmond public high school graduation, resulting in the loss of life and multiple injuries.
“Seven months after an act of gun violence took the lives of three University of Virginia college students, we, in our diocese, are faced with another wrenching act of violence.
“This callous act and subsequent chaotic, terrorizing scene occurred just yards away from our Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, causing fear and pandemonium for so many leaving the ceremony. What should have been a day of celebration for families and of student achievements – instead is marred by gun violence.

Today was a Diocesan Day of Service and all Pastoral Center Employees partnered with Rise Against Hunger and packed 10,152 meals. From a schools perspective that will provide 47 students school lunches for a year!

On behalf of the McMahon Parater Scholarship Foundation and the students receiving scholarships, we would like to thank you for contacting your legislator regarding the proposed reduction in the Education Improvement Scholarship Tax Credit (EISTC) program.
As you may have heard, the General Assembly approved a budget with minimal changes, leaving the big question to be resolved over differences on tax proposals.
We want you to know that the EISTC program is secure. The existing cap in the program remains the same, and there is no reduction in the amount of tax credits that may be issued. This ensures a protected revenue stream so that donors will be able to receive their tax credit and – most importantly – students will be able to receive a scholarship to attend the school of their choice.

The EISTC Scholarship Program is extremely important to all of our Catholic Schools and our ability to offer scholarships to students. Please Take Action NOW!
We need your help! Please contact your legislators to tell them to restore funding to the EISTC program. Each year, thousands of students attending Catholic Schools receive scholarships through this program. If the program is cut, it will have a devastating impact on our students, their families, and our Catholic schools.
