Pace Academy is seeking a Montessori-certified guide (ages 6-9) who loves working closely with learners and creating a calm, purposeful environment where children can thrive.

As the Lead Montessori Guide, you’ll lead morning Montessori work cycles, support learners in building independence, and help shape a studio culture grounded in respect, focus, and meaningful work. We’ve intentionally designed this position to support deep engagement- with time for planning, observation, and thoughtful interaction with each learner.

One of the biggest barriers to outdoor play? Adult fear.

And surprisingly, it’s often not fear of injury.

Years ago, we welcomed world-renowned occupational therapist and Director of the Sydney Playground Project, Anita Bundy, as the keynote speaker at our TimberNook Conference. During her work, she introduced loose parts into recess and then studied how parents and teachers perceived the play.

What she discovered was eye-opening.

The biggest source of adult fear wasn’t concern over children getting hurt - it was fear of judgment. Parents worried about what other parents might think if their child climbed high or engaged in play that looked “risky.” Teachers feared something else entirely: losing their jobs.

Letting go of fear isn’t easy for adults. But it is essential if we want to make space for meaningful, child-directed play.

When we trust children to assess risk, regulate their emotions, and make their own decisions, they show us just how capable they truly are.

Pace Academy is looking for an Elementary Guide who loves thoughtful conversations, hands-on learning, and helping children grow in character as much as academics. This isn’t a traditional classroom role. Our guides coach, challenge, and walk alongside learners as they take ownership of their growth.
