In an emergency, every second counts, especially during a cardiac arrest. Recognizing this, the American Heart Association (AHA) has dedicated substantial resources to improving Telecommunicator CPR (T-CPR). This initiative focuses on empowering emergency dispatchers to deliver CPR instructions effectively over the phone, a critical skill that can significantly enhance survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The American Heart Association (AHA) is beginning to audit course records to ensure that all students in ACLS or PALS instructor-led courses have appropriately and successfully passed the pre-course assessment. The following text has been provided to all TCs and TSs by the AHA for guidance:
"The ACLS and PALS Precourse Self-assessments evaluate a student’s knowledge in three sections: Rhythm Recognition; Pharmacology; and Practical Application. Students are required to complete a Precourse Self-assessment prior to attending an ACLS or PALS Provider ILT Course in order to evaluate their proficiency and determine the need for additional review and practice before the class.
The passing score for the ACLS and PALS Precourse Self-assessments is 70%. There is no limit on how many times a student can retake an assessment to achieve this score. Students must print out and bring to the ILT class a copy of the certificate of completion indicating their passing score on the Precourse Self-assessment and completion of all video lessons."
