A severe asthma attack during a cross-country race sent seventh-grader Memphis into cardiac arrest. Bystander CPR and an AED saved him.

Because everyone acted quickly when Memphis collapsed, doctors felt confident he wouldn't have any physical or mental deficits. Two weeks after his cardiac arrest, doctors cleared Memphis to resume all activities. A week later, he joined his teammates for the final race of the season – back at the same city park where his heart stopped.

Memphis' parents, Erin and Justin, have been spreading the word about learning CPR, and many of their friends and family have now been trained.

"This is what my life's work is going to be now," Erin said. "It's not just about learning CPR, but also about responding immediately. Don't wait for someone else to do it. It might be too late."

Lunch time scavenger hunt - grab your phone and post in the comments: Where is the AED is located in the place you work or frequent? It is important to know if and where the AED is in case of an emergency. The two steps to use an AED are power it on and follow the voice and visual prompts as directed. We look forward to seeing your AED in the comments below. Here's to your success! [Graphic created by the AHA]

From a recent Google review:
I'm an RN, and recertification is always an inconvenience that I dread having to complete. The staff at CSRE, especially Matt S., made the experience something totally different than what I expected. They have a great deal called the Triple Play for recertification in BLS/ACLS/PALS at a competitive value. I attended the location in Richmond and the facility is neat, clean, and well-stocked with high-quality equipment. The staff are highly professional, and the communication is timely. Also, the simulations are one-on-one and give you ample opportunity to practice skills and ask questions. I want to give a shout-out to Matt S., who was amazing as my simulation coach and seems like a highly competent nurse with an amazing body of knowledge. I walked out feeling confident and as though I had a mini nursing school refresher. I highly recommend CRSE and hope to use them in the future for additional recertifications and certifications in PEARS and ACLS for Experienced Providers. Thanks so much!

AED Training today! We had a great time with the Avive AED and training the actual use of an AED in the chain of survival. Everyone felt so much more confident about responding to an emergency. It wasn't theoretical, we turned it on, listened to the prompts and followed along. If your group is looking for CPR and AED training, call CSRE today to schedule your on-site training.
