As someone who believes in marketing as a force for equity, I pay close attention to how it is used to expand access, challenge systems, or change perception. I cannot wait to see the amazing contributions towards this effort!

“How Roanoke Illuminated a History That Was Hidden in
Plain Site”
This case study tracks the creation and debut of Hidden In Plain Site: Roanoke through the efforts of The City of Roanoke, key sponsors, the family of Henrietta Lacks, individual donors and volunteers, and the Harrison Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC). Now a newly designated nonprofit, the Hidden In Plain Site team will discuss how the process of creating the HiPS: VMFA and Roanoke experiences (web, mobile, video, and virtual reality (VR)) helped them take a look back at their own history and became a centerpiece of storytelling and cultural honesty for the history of the black experience.

We are super excited about this collaboration. What an essential story to tell (which is why we featured John Mitchell, Jr. in our first Hidden In Plain Site: Richmond).

The Firehouse Theatre, in collaboration with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and the Richmond Planet Foundation, has commissioned playwright Kristen Adele Calhoun to dramatize the life and times of John Mitchell Jr., the “fighting editor” of The Richmond Planet Newspaper.
