Dear colleagues,
I hope you are doing well amidst our current circumstances. I am writing to ask for your help on a research project. Many of us are teaching online for the first time. As such, it is critical that we receive quality feedback about our online teaching to help improve our courses. We are in the process of adapting the Teacher Behavior Checklist (TBC) to assess online courses. The TBC is an empirically grounded and evidence-based teaching evaluation instrument, but it was designed with in-person classes in mind. As we are all becoming aware, the activities and responsibilities for online courses are different than in-person courses, and thus require a different teaching evaluation. Our current project is to gather some initial validity evidence for the version of the TBC for online classes (which we are calling the TBC-O).
Participation involves using the TBC-O to evaluate your online or hybrid courses this semester. Participation in this research is completely voluntary. At the end of the course we will conduct an end-of-semester evaluation, and provide you with the feedback. If you are interested in participating, please follow this link https://vcupsych.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_81SGlMCWqsXpBqJ to a short survey where you will let us know which courses you would like to evaluate, when you would like it to happen, and some information about your institution and background.
In addition, if you choose to participate, you will be entered into a drawing to win one of five gift cards! Further, the students in your classes who choose to participate will also have a chance to win a gift card.
At the conclusion of the project, we will post a copy of the TBC-O so that anyone will be able to use it to evaluate their courses. Stay tuned for details.
