It's been a raucous, exhilarating day for students and staff at MRH Elementary School. Today, they all learned which "house" they'll belong to for the 26-27 school year. The “house” model is a dynamic and exciting way to reinforce a positive school culture for students and staff alike. It works like this: students and teachers are grouped into one of four houses. Each house comprises individuals who otherwise would not normally interact with one another as they do in their grade-level cohorts. The result, says MRHE Principal Carlisha Elam, is a stronger sense of belonging and a tighter connection to the school’s expectations such as empathy, mindfulness, integrity and resilience.

"You Belong Here." That's the 26-27 theme for our school, and we were excited to see these Maplewood Richmond Heights High School student-athletes getting up extra early this morning to greet our kiddos with a high-five line! It's been a fantastic first week in school.

The Back-to-School Open House was a big hit tonight! Families received time slots to meet their children's teachers, explore their classrooms, and get ready for the exciting year ahead. They also dropped off school supplies in advance, grabbed some swag from our fabulous MRHE PTO, and enjoyed popsicles when they weren't mugging for the camera.

Once more, our good friends at Health Care Family Credit Union stepped up to collect classroom supplies for the big MRH Back to School Fair, taking place this Saturday, August 22, at MRH High School. HCFCU solicited and then matched donations by credit union members. Get 'em while supplies last!
Stop by the fair from 4 pm-6 pm and enjoy food, fun and freebies. Starting at 5 pm, each student attendee plus one adult may enjoy the Maplewood Family Aquatic Center.

The MRH Elementary School Houses are back, better than ever for 2026-2027. Students will belong, learn, and lead together!

Based on community and staff feedback, we are rolling out this year with FOUR houses instead of ten. On August 28, our students will find out which House they belong to!

Plus, all MRHE students will receive a new shirt this year for their House. Please donate to support your student and the House program all year long. Donations will be used to buy new shirts and provide rewards throughout the 2026-2027 school year!

Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary teacher Sayre Adkins was among the 130 educators participating in a mySci Summer Institute held on Washington University’s Danforth Campus on July 21. Designed and administered by Wash-U’s Institute for School Partnership (ISP), mySci is a comprehensive, high-quality, K-8 program centered around experiential learning and critical thinking. Each year, the ISP delivers 13,000+ mySci kits to 245+ schools across the St. Louis region.
