The host site for the Project Search-Tazewell County program is Clinch Valley Medical Center. Project Search is a nine month vocational-based internship program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program is targeted for individuals whose goal is competitive employment. Project Search Tazewell County takes place at Clinch Valley Medical Center. Total immersion in the w
orkplace facilities is taught as well as learning processes of employable and marketable work skills. Interns participate in three internships to explore a variety of career paths. The interns work with a team that includes their family, an instructor, and local and state agencies to create and obtain employment goals. Project Search Tazewell County works with the Department of Aging and Rehabilitation Services (DARS), Stand-Up, Inc., Tazewell County Public Schools, and Clinch Valley Medical Center. Interns work closely with a vocational counselor through DARS, a skills trainer through Stand-Up, Inc., an instructor through Tazewell County Public Schools, and mentors from Clinch Valley Medical Center. Interns apply and interview for admittance into the Project Search program that follows the local school schedule. The "best fit" intern is someone who is entering their senior year of high school or wishing to continue their education as a post graduate student, students who are on track for an Applied Studies Diploma or have received an Applied Studies diploma, strong attendance, a desire to obtain competitive employment, and have a positive attitude.
