๐Ÿ”ฅ Safety first! ๐Ÿš’ During our first week of classes, MICC first-year College participants had the opportunity to connect with the Richfield Fire Department and learn important fire safety and emergency preparedness skills. They talked about why sleeping with bedroom doors closed can help keep us safe, learned more about a firefighterโ€™s job, and practiced knowing when to call 911.

Thank you to the Richfield Fire Department for helping our participants build confidence and stay safe in their communities!

๐ŸŒฎ MICC College participants are moved in and classes have begun! This year, our Instruction Team decided to try something new: handing over the responsibility of preparing dinner for the ENTIRE College program to our third-year participants. And when asked if they were up for it? They jumped in with BOTH FEET.

The group took over the kitchen and prepared a Taco Tuesday meal for their fellow participants โ€” first-year, second-year, and their fellow third-year. Thatโ€™s planning, food prep, kitchen safety, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and a whole lot of responsibility wrapped up into one very large batch of taco meat.

This is exactly the kind of real-world application MICC creates opportunities for. Not just learning independent living skills, but being trusted to use them, take ownership, and contribute to their community. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ•๏ธ What makes MICC retreats so special? Itโ€™s the excitement of trying something completely new, laughing around a campfire, exploring a new town with friends, or bringing home a small keepsake to remember the experience. While every retreat looks different, each one is intentionally designed to help participants build confidence, strengthen friendships, and create memories that last long after the trip is over.

Throughout the College program, participants experience a variety of retreats that grow alongside them. Some are day adventures focused on teamwork and stepping outside of their comfort zones, while others are overnight experiences that encourage greater independence. Participants may find themselves navigating a ropes course, camping for the first time, preparing meals together, exploring a new community, or simply enjoying conversations around a campfire at the end of the day.

๐ŸŽฃ MICC participants recently joined the Second Annual Neurodiversity Fishing Event with Fishing For Life! Kicking off with fun activities like bubbles, fidgets, and card games, the group enjoyed a wonderful dinner before they hit the water. Guided on the boat by two volunteers, the MICC crew caught 6 fish in total! By the time the event was over, everyone was already discussing returning for next yearโ€™s event!

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Giving back, one meal at a time! MICC participants in our Community Volunteering course recently spent the day volunteering with Open Arms of Minnesota, helping prepare and package fresh, healthy, dietitian-approved meals for neighbors in need.

We're so grateful for opportunities like this that allow our participants to learn through giving back.

๐ŸŽ“ What an incredible Admitted Students Day! We officially welcomed the MICC College Class of 2029, and it was an amazing start to their journey. Even more exciting, all 20 incoming first-year participants and their families attended, making the day a tremendous success. Part of the group posed for a fun photo to capture their first memories together.

After catching up on program details, participants were able to see their new apartments and meet their roommates! We can wait to welcome you all to campus next month ๐Ÿ‘‹
